EASTWIND PRAYER POEMS

it is hard to see
the beauty in a beggar
hidden beneath rags
it is hard to see
the monster in a beauty queen
hidden beneath elegance
if you want to really ‘see’ people
look with your heart
not with your eyes

a true story
at the age of two months john patrick martin
was found to have biliary atresia
a congenital predisposition to liver cancer
as of this writing he is seven months
if he was not operated on within a few months
any operation would be impossible
he had a 50-50 chance to live
a liver transplant would cost
about four million pesos says his mother marian
an operations manager at abenson
john’s skin and eyes turned yellow
his stoole became white
they gave him intra-venus fluid for many days
when his arm could no longer take the needles
they moved to the head which they shaved clean
the scars on arms and head remained
having no such money, marian brought john
to sister raquel reodica RVM
at the mother ignacia healing center
john was found to be positive
on his first test on may 5, 2004
they stayed at the center may 16 to 18
a second test on may 20 revealed he was negative
within 15 days the Lord healed john
slowly the yellow color disappeared
within a month all symptoms vanished
his medical records before and after healing
is a testimony of the Lord’s power and love
pediatrician dr gener besina was amazed
how such a serious ailment
could vanish at the blink of an eye
he said ‘talagang mabait ang Diyos’
(God is really good)

first go to the mirror
before you look out the window
to see how bad the world looks
first go to the mirror
and see how you look
then when you look out the window
you will see things better as they are

street prayer
if you find no time to pray
try the simple easy ‘street prayer’
as you walk the streets
pray for everyone you see
vendors, children, executives
policemen, jeepney drivers
you will discover that
your prayer for another
is seven prayers for yourself
