Prayer56 – OF SELF-EXCOMMUNICATIONS AND THE RH BILL – This is a reply to the stinging attacks of Mr. John Silva, an admitted gay, against the Catholic Church. Let me begin by quoting his entire letter, so you can discern why he is really so angry, some of which is based on wrong media information. John and I were friends in New York. I had dinner at his place on occasions. I even took a trip to Connecticut with him and his boyfriend. They are nice fellows, very sharp and sensitive. I have no problem with gays. I accept them even if some Church elements condemn them. Let us begin with John’s letter. A few of my comments are inserted in GREEN ALL CAPS. – OPEN LETTER TO THE PHILIPPINE CATHOLIC BISHOPS – EXCOMMUNICATE ME. – Dear Bishops, – I would like you to excommunicate me. I’ve had enough of your antics, the latest having jailed my RH activist friend Carlos Celdran and threatening to excommunicate our President. (FALSE STATEMENT, LATER CLARIFIED BY THE BISHOP MISQUOTED BY THE MEDIA). So let‘s dissolve this relationship once and for all. I am doing this with a sound mind and have since age 12, not participated in any Catholic practices from going to church, receiving communion and donating to your cause. I’d like to end this relationship with the Church for many reasons but the most blatant are the following: – 1. The Church is anti-women. It deprives them of information on how to be healthy and to decide how many, if any children they will have. Because of that deprivation, close to 500,000 married Filipina women commit abortions each year. Ironically, your deprivation of their right to know promotes abortion. Many women have died because of this situation so I also accuse the Church of wholesale murder. – NOT MALICIOUSLY ‘DEPRIVING WOMEN OF INFORMATION’, THERE ARE ONGOING CHURCH FAMILY PLANNING EDUCATION PROGRAMS, THEY JUST DON’T CARRY YOUR LINE OF THOUGHT, JOHN. – 2. You condemn homosexuals. I’m one so let’s not pussyfoot on this issue. You think I sin and I think your sin blaming is a lot of malarkey and hypocritical. By keeping quiet, you have allowed priests to have sex with boys. Yet you don’t want me to have sex with my male lover. The Church has a consistency problem. (SO ITS SEEMS YOUR ANGER IS MORE AGAINST THE ANTI-GAYS THAN THE RH BILL PER SE.) – 3. You now threaten to excommunicate President Benigno Aquino for his stand on providing contraceptives to the poor. (AGAIN, FALSE STATEMENT, LATER CLARIFIED BY THE BISHOP MISQUOTED BY THE MEDIA). Your threat is arrogant and anti-Filipino. You seem to have forgotten that the struggle for Philippine independence was very much anti-clerical. You know what? Spare the President and let him do his job in this area. If you need a culprit just excommunicate me instead since I’m fine with it. You can still fulfill your quota of errant souls. – THE CHURCH INDEED PARTICIPATED IN COLONIZATION AND OPPRESSION OF FILIPINOS, TRUE, AND I ALSO CONDEMN THAT, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE ME LEAVE THE CHURCH. – 4. You are anti-poor. See No. 3. I’d like to be excommunicated because I want to join the ranks of distinguished individuals like Martin Luther and Galileo who got axed but were later vindicated. I sense I will be vindicated as well but may not see it in my lifetime, so I’d rather have the excommunication done now. I know for sure you will eat crow later. Please inform me when you’ll have the excommunication ceremony so I can attend it and have it on video. I’d like to put it on my blog and on FB. I guess the attire is formal but do let me know if the ceremony will be inside an aircon dungeon or outside near a burning stake. Before you go on with the ceremony, I’d like a few minutes of airtime. I’m going to make fun of your ermine gowns and make mincemeat on your silly ideas of infallibility. For sound bites, I’ll out a couple of your queer priests. – I GUESS SARCASM IS GOOD TO DRIVE HOME A POINT, JOHN, BUT IN THIS CASE IT MAY DILUTE RATHER THAN STRENGTHEN YOUR POINT. – GALILEO WAS CONDEMNED AS A ‘HERETIC’ BY AN IGNORANT CHURCH FOR SAYING THE EARTH REVOLVED AROUND THE SUN IN THE 17TH CENTURY. AFTER ALMOST 4 CENTURIES, THE VATICAN ACCEPTED HIS THEORY IN 1993 WITHOUT REMORSE FOR THE IGNORANCE OF ITS PREDECESSORS. BEFORE THAT, THE CHURCH CONDEMNED COPERNICUS FOR SAYING THE SUN AND PLANETS REVOLVED AROUND THE EARTH BECAUSE IT WAS IN ‘CONFLICT WITH THE SCRIPTURES’, WHICH NAIVELY SAID THE EARTH WAS FLAT WITH AN ‘ABYSS’ AT THE EDGE. – THE CHURCH DID THE SAME WITH DARWIN, CONDEMNED FOR THE NOW-ACCEPTED THEORY OF EVOLUTION. THE IGNORANT CHURCH THOUGHT THAT EVOLUTION WAS IN CONFLICT WITH THE THEOLOGY OF CREATION. THEY DID THE SAME WITH PIERRE TEILHARD DE CHARDIN FOR HIS THEORY OF EVOLUTION OF CONSCIOUSNESS. THE CHURCH EXCOMMUNICATED HIM AND LATER EXTOLLED HIM TO THE HIGH HEAVENS FOR HIS REVOLUTIONARY THEOLOGICAL INSIGHTS THAT MAN’S CONSCIOUSNESS WAS ‘CHRISTO-CENTRIC’. THE CHURCH HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR TWO MILLENNIA, JOHN. – I CANNOT CONDEMN THE CHURCH FOR IGNORANCE. I WOULD JUST HELP ENLIGHTEN IT IF I CAN. JOHN, YOU MUST REALIZE THERE IS IGNORANCE IN HIGH PLACES IN ANY INSTITUTION, INCLUDING YOUR WHITE HOUSE AND CONGRESS. NOT ALL IN THE CHURCH ARE GENIUSES LIKE US (OOPS). MY MISSION IS TO ENLIGHTEN THE IGNORANT, EVEN IF THEY ARE CARDINALS OR GENERALS. – BY THE WAY, CHURCH IGNORANCE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH INFALLIBILITY WHICH IS THE POPE’S PREROGATIVE BUT ONLY IF HE OPTS TO EXERCISE IT. OTHER TIMES, THE POPE CAN BE PERFECTLY WRONG. – And I’d like to tell you all to your faces that you’ve ceased long ago to become the force for good for our country and for the world. Please do not attempt to further pray for my soul or hope for a reconciliation or that I will ever reverse my feelings on the matter. I have long decided to do good for others, to love who I please, and to help in some small way to protect the earth which your Church has been remiss in all these areas. I categorically do not want the slightest association with some man-made contrivance that espouses hate and condemnation and so diametrically different with what I do. You may think you have the ultimate carrot “the Salvation Card” dangling over me when I die. Well Bishops, go eat your carrots. It’s good for your eyesight. You certainly need it since you can’t seem to see the poor around you. Let me call you next week to remind you. I so love pageantry, especially those quaint and ridiculous. Your former Catholic, – John L. Silva – Dear John, – My turn. I received your stinging rebuke of the Church. It was quite emotional and full of anger. I have no problem with people wanting to excommunicate themselves out of sheer anger. My anger is different. It is against the hegemony of the superpower, which I will explain below. – There are two ways to react when you are a member of an institution or community which makes deep blunders – condemn or destroy or leave the organization or pray, stay and fight for reforms. You opted for the former. I opt for the latter. We have conflicting prerogatives. Your tirade actually makes me all the more wanting to be a reformist. – All organizations are human and subject to errors. The Church is as much human as it is divine, as much ignorant as it is enlightened. Self-excommunications have happened since the Reformation. I have found so many scandalous things within the Church, such as pedophilia being kept secret by the Vatican, or condemnations of great men who were correct. I agree that the Church can be amiss. And I am just as angry as you are, John. – However, my attitude is different. Beyond my anger, scandals strengthen rather than weaken my faith. My reaction is prayers and reforms, rather than condemnation. The natural reflex is to bolt the Church in anger, to commit self-excommunication. Your reaction is like Martin Luther’s who started the Reformation during the dark age of the Church. My reaction is like the Jesuits’ who started the Counter-Reformation, putting the Church back on its feet, bringing back the Light, containing the darkness. – GEOPOLITICS OF THE RH BILL – It may be important to be aware of certain geopolitical factors behind the REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (RH) BILL. Over and above the moral issue is the geopolitical. The US has been successfully funding abortion bills in Third World countries. The US pours millions of dollars to have abortion legalized in African countries. – The US works thru the USAID and the World Bank ADB consortium, and has poured billions in the last decade, trying to legalize abortion to stem runaway population. Some are in the guise of family planning programs. They dilute their arguments to elude Church condemnation. During the Bush era, the US funded abortion clinics across continental America. America wants to legalize abortion worldwide. – The US has a sinister motive. It believes that population explosion in Third World nations will result in rapid depletion of resources they want and need. They are not doing it as a favor to us but to themselves. – Please read two books. First is EXCESSIVE FORCE – POWER, POLITICS AND POPULATION CONTROL, published by Information Project for Africa, Inc. 1995, PO Box 43345, Washington DC 20010, USA. “An Essay on the Benevolent Superpower, sustainable development, and other other Contemporary Myths” Second is – ROGUE STATE, by Richard Blum, banned in the US, printed in the UK. This book tells all the clandestine operations of the US on a global scale, including Project Echelon, which reads every electronic signal on the planet, your cellphone texts and emails included. These are crunched by computers occupying an entire town in the UK. That is how deep the geopolitical factor is. – In the Philippines, they have under their thumbs, thru the release of funds, solons, government agencies, pseudo-NGOs/POs, pseudo-Christian organizations, scientists, professors, and media, to mention a few. They even helped to author the RH bill. They are omnipresent because they have the money.
