The Philippine Church has a current campaign for an Act of Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to be recited by the entire nation and by all Filipinos, to attain peace and avert disasters at a time of increasing confusion and conflicts. Consecration means entrustment or surrender of one’s life, an act of total oblation. Our Lady of Fatima told visionary Lucia, “But in the end, My Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to Me. Russia will be converted and a period of peace will be given to mankind.”
Fatima scholars cite ‘Marian interventions’ towards world peace immediately after the consecration of Russia. The Cuban crisis was averted in 1961. Gorbachev, visited Pope John Paul II, and, touched by their dialogue, instituted détente as a unilateral policy towards peace with the West. This led to the eventual break up of the Russian empire, and the end of the cold war. He also opened up the churches in Russia and ended decades of suppression of the Church. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 followed, all considered by Fatima scholars as Marian interventions, attributed to the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
On June 8, 2013, the “National-Philippines Act of Consecration-Entrustment to the Immaculate Heart of Mary” was read in all cathedrals and churches nationwide. This will be done in four more first Saturdays from July to October, to satisfy what Our Lady of Fatima is asking of us to atone for sins and avert punishment. If you cannot go to church on first Saturdays, please recite the short version of the Act of Consecration below from your keyboard FIVE TIMES ON DIFFERENT DAYS. It will have the same effect. ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY Oh Holy Mary, Mother of God, we take this time, as a nation, and as individuals, to consecrate ourselves to Your Immaculate Heart in the name of Jesus, your Son. We dedicate and offer our lives and our nation to Jesus through you. We surrender ourselves to His will through you, Oh Blessed Virgin of Fatima. We ask you to intercede for us to achieve peace. Protect us from sickness, disasters, wars and all forms of evil that is plaguing the world today. We ask you to intercede for us to your Son for the forgiveness of sins, reparation for sins, and conversion of sinners. In return, dear Jesus and Mary, we resolve, as a nation and as individuals, to atone for our sins and those of others by giving ourselves to others, especially the poor and the sick, sharing our wealth, no matter how meager, and avoiding to offend You, Lord . Through Our Lady of Fatima, to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. To you be all honor and glory. Amen. (Say 5 Hail Marys.)
__________________________ MINISTRY INSPIRATIONALS Child of the Universe An inspiring mini-anecdote It was a hot humid day that tested everyone’s patience. Jeffrey, a ten year old boy, was with his dad Edward, one of eight cops trying to solve a ridiculous but challenging predicament. A 16-wheeler truck was stuck at the overpass because the clearance was too low. The cops were in a huddle, brainstorming on what to do. They called in a tractor. It would not budge. They got four sledge hammers to cut a piece of the concrete overpass. It would not budge. Next, they tried to cut the steel roof of the truck. It would not budge. They put grease on the roof of the truck. It would not budge. They were running out of options.
By this time, the traffic jam was now two kilometers long. The cops were getting panicky. Jeffery was trying to tell his dad something. Edward said, “Later, Jeffrey, we got a big problem here.” In his exasperation, Jeffrey went straight to the truck, and let the air out of the two front tires. Immediately, the driver caught Jeffrey’s ingenious plan, reversed the flat-tired truck and the truck was free. Everyone was astounded. The cops in a huddle looked up and were surprised to see the problem was solved. They were applauding Jeffrey, who gave a thumbs up to his shocked dad.
