In the early days of the Mother Ignacia Healing Center in Novaliches, there was no chapel. Sister Raquel Reodica, RVM, the Lord’s ‘cancer-healer’, conducted the healing sessions in the open air, subject to rain and sun.
One day, in a sudden downpour, everyone got soaking wet. Sr. Raquel said the rain was ‘healing water’. A woman noticed that Sister’s clothes were completely dry. Sister brushed aside the ensuing commotion. An even bigger miracle was about to happen.

The ground became thick with mud after the downpour. So, the sisters built cemented wheel chair aisles. Huge canvas sheets were tied to the trees. Still, everything was temporary and makeshift.
An architect, healed by Sr. Raquel of terminal kidney cancer, approached her.
ARCHITECT – Sister, I just had a vision when you were praying over me. I saw a healing church there (pointing to a vacant lot with tall weeds). May I put up a painting of my vision there?
SR. RAQUEL – Finally, the Lord’s hand. Of course, you may.
ARCHITECT – (After the painting of his visions was mounted) Now, you can start a fund raiser to build the church.
SR. RAQUEL – I don’t ask for money. It distracts me from healing. Things will fall into place in the Lord’s time.
During healing days, many asked Sister about the painting, if there was a plan to build the church. Sister shrugged her shoulders and said, “I have no idea. Perhaps in the Lord’s time.”
Then came an engineer who was healed of prostate cancer. He looked at the painting and the next day, gave Sister a blueprint, and a detailed list of construction materials needed – hollow blocks, steel bars, sacks of cement, sand, etc. From then on, when people asked, Sister would simply show them the blueprint and list of materials needed.
One by one, people who were healed looked at the list and volunteered to donate. Slowly, the building materials came. One who had a hardware store, healed of insomnia, gave hollow blocks and sand. Another, healed of kidney cancer, offered cement. Another gave lumber, nails, and steel bars. On their own, with no one asking, they contributed. A lady contractor, instantly healed of breast cancer, supplied the laborers and their wages.
In no time, without Sister lifting a finger, the infrastructure rose from the ground. More offered help – the paint, the roof, finishing materials, tiles for the floor, and more laborers. A businessman donated a huge glass mosaic image of Mother Ignacia. The people the Lord healed, strangers to each other, became a powerful force in the building of the healing church.

The healing church was rising with no one in charge. Or it was the Lord who was in charge. Fine arts students from the University of Santo Tomas painted a set of murals on the outer side wall. Joey Velasco, the famous painter of the Last Supper using squatter kids as the 12 apostles, donated a giant mural version, after he was healed of terminal kidney cancer. The statues of Mama Mary, the Santo Nino, and the Sacred Heart all came from donors.

An old farmer from Bulacan, blind from advance cataract, approached Sister.
FARMER – Sister, my eyes are so itchy, I cannot sleep. Please ask the Lord to remove the itch.
SR. RAQUEL – Why don’t you ask the Lord to bring back your eyesight?
FARMER – Is that possible?
SR. RAQUEL – Anything is possible for the Lord. Come, let us pray together.
FARMER – (Opening his eyes after they prayed together for ten minutes in tears) Sister, your garden is so beautiful.
The farmer was instantly healed. Sister noticed that his tears were milky, not clear. She knew that the Lord was washing and healing his eyes with his own tears.
A deaf-mute boy of ten, impatient that Sr. Raquel was ignoring him, pulled her sleeve several times, and suddenly blurted out, “Sister, it’s my turn.” His mother wept at hearing her deaf-mute son speak.
In the succeeding months, thousands were healed in that church. After Sister was interviewed by the TV program Magandang Gabi Bayan (Good Evening, Philippines), there was a wheel-chair traffic jam, cars double parked outside for two kilometers. The Lord works in mysterious ways.
