This is an update of recent developments. The Vatican ordered Lipa Archbishop Gilbert Garcera to ban all Church rituals related to Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace within his archdiocese. So, the Virgin ‘moved’ to a nearby place ten minutes away from Lipa, Barangay Banay-banay-1 in San Jose, where Garcera’s ban on the Mediatrix has no hold. That is how the author discerns the Virgin’s strategy. There, in a tiny humble oratory or prayer room, the Virgin performed a miracle – sweet-smelling oil flowing from her statue.
The clash between the Vatican and the Virgin has been going on for 70 years now, since the first apparition in 1948. For every suppression from the Vatican, the Virgin’s reply is a miracle.

The Miracle of the Oil.
The oil has been flowing for two years continuously, non-stop, to this day, at times slowly, but at other times profusely if there are people praying, the caretaker said.
As I entered the tiny oratory, a felt a sudden calm from the sacred place. The four-foot statue of the Virgin Mediatrix was encased in glass. I saw oil dripping from the nose and the chin. The wooden pedestal was flooded with oil, so they placed cotton all around to absorb the oil. When it was fully saturated, they replaced it with new dry cotton. The saturated cotton was packed into small sealed plastic cups which were given out to devotees for free. The inside of the glass panel was full of beads of oil dripping down. As soon as Aram opened the panel, a powerful sweet smell of roses similar to that from the miraculous rose petals at the Carmelite church came out. Cash donations are not allowed.

Invitation to the Two-year Anniversary of the Miraculous Oil.
Devotees are cordially invited to the two-year anniversary of the miraculous oil this Sunday, 10am on February 18, 2024 in Barangay Banay-banay-1, San Jose, Batangas. See map and directions below. The oratory is also open every day from 9am to 5pm.
The place is hard to reach. One has to walk about 150 meters along a cemented two-foot-wide path into a deep interior where the modest oratory or prayer room was built. One has to step aside for people coming from the opposite direction. There are modest homes surrounded by trees along the way in this privately-owned compound.
On February 18, 2023, about 1,500 people came for the first-year anniversary of the ‘miracle of the oil’, squeezing their way through the dense crowd to the tiny oratory which can accommodate a measly 20 people at a time. So there was a long line outside. They had marshals for crowd control and to guide devotees. There are plans to widen the path to accommodate wheelchairs.
The second-year anniversary is coming up on February 18, 2024, and there are frenzied preparations for a crowd that could reach 3,000 to 5,000. In fear that they may not be able to handle the crowd, I asked permission from Aram, the custodian and caretaker, to spread the news of the second anniversary in media and in social media. Aram said that there is no problem. They are ready for it. They have marshals to escort devotees. Let Mama Mary take care of the rest, he said, adding that everybody is welcome, rich or poor, locals or foreigners. Mama Mary will be glad, he said.

Healing Stories.
IT IS YOUR FAITH AND SINCERE PRAYER THAT HEAL YOU. THAT IS ALL MAMA MARY ASKS FOR HER TO HEAL YOU. THE OIL IN ITSELF CANNOT HEAL. IT IS SIMPLY A PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT FOR THE LORD’S HEALING THROUGH HIS MOTHER.
Inside the oratory, I met Mae Garcia who told me this healing story. She was praying with Rowena Tomeldan for a friend in deep depression, wanting to commit suicide. When the cellphone rang, they answered the persistent call only after the rosary was done. It was the suicidal person, who said that she suddenly felt calm, peaceful and happy. The depression vanished. It was the gift of inner peace from the Virgin.
Mae had a second story. They were also praying for her brother Jojo Ocampo, living in Austen, Texas, who had skin cancer lingering for the last two years. The doctors said surgery to remove the skin cancer wound was out of the question because his type of cancer was rare and so aggressive. Surgery would simply trigger the spread of the cancer. In fact, they were suspecting it had already spread to his lungs. Even chemotherapy was ruled out. The only resort was radiation.
While Mae and Rowena were praying for Jojo, a second biopsy was taken to verify for sure if surgery was indeed not possible. Mae also sent Jojo some of the miraculous oil together with a rosary and a Mediatrix pamphlet given by Aram.
The doctors were shocked by the sudden change in the condition of the cancer wound. It was now safe to perform surgery. And so, they performed surgery on Jojo, who was completely healed, cancer free.
Background.
Gathering dust, the four-foot statue of Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace was kept hidden in a bodega for years in Pateros, Metro-Manila, before it was purchased by a family and brought to their home in Barangay Banay-banay-1 in San Jose, Batangas, very near Lipa City.
On Feb. 18, 2022, someone cleaning the place noticed that there was a pool of oil on the floor. Even more surprising, the oil had the sweet scent of roses.
Upon advice of a priest, the statue was transferred to a small oratory or prayer room within the private compound, which could accommodate about 20 people. No shoes and slippers are to be allowed in this sacred place.
