‘Stories that Warm the Heart’ is a compilation of about 150 short anecdotes (and increasing), mostly true stories or inspired by true events or characters. They are published individually in the author’s column StarGazer in the Daily Tribune, and in his blogsite www.eastwindjournals.com. It will be published into a book (hard and soft copies) at a later period, to be available at Amazon.

21 THE CHILD HEALER (#15)
Rebecca, a six-year-old homeless orphan, lives alone below the roofed statue of the Blessed Virgin at the Baclaran Church garden. Especially on Wednesdays when there is the novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, attended by thousands, she is forced to wake up early to avoid being seen by church goers who arrive at 5:30 a.m. Mass. This is the story of how she became a child-healer. https://eastwindjournals.com/2023/04/12/the-child-healer-15/
22 EGO IS THE ENEMY (#13B)
This is inspired by a story of an advertising agency executive.
It was a crazy idea – making peace by inducing war, but it worked. George is the new creative director of a prestigious advertising agency. Before him, four others resigned in less than three months. None could handle the ‘wars’ in the Creative Department. He is meeting his four copywriters for the first time – Janice, Jeffrey, Liz, and Leo. https://eastwindjournals.com/2023/03/20/ego-is-the-enemy-true-tales-volume-13-b/
23 THE REBEL WHO CHANGED HIS MIND (#21)
(This is inspired by a true story, names changed for privacy.) Charlie, who came from a wealthy sugar family from Negros, became a radical activist as a student in a prestigious university. He always joined street rallies and eventually became a respected officer in the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP). He specialized in propaganda and mixed freely with the New People’s Army (NPA), the rebel army of the party. But something happened which changed Charlie completely. https://eastwindjournals.com/2022/06/27/the-leftist-who-changed-his-mind/
24 STEVE JOBS – DEATH AS THE PRINCIPLE OF LIFE
In the midst of his utter success and a rapidly growing empire, Steve Jobs developed cancer of the pancreas. His doctors told him that it was mostly incurable. Steve suddenly made a 180-degree paradigm shift from the vision of his empire to the vision of his death. https://eastwindjournals.com/2023/01/15/steve-jobs-death-as-the-principle-of-life/
25 THE FISHBALL VENDOR (#25)
(Inspired by a kid selling fishbal the author met in the Singalong market in Manila.) London-based journalist Sean is in Manila on assignment to write about “The Essential Filipino”. Surprisingly, Joey, an eight-year-old sidewalk vendor is his source of wisdom. https://eastwindjournals.com/2023/05/21/the-fishball-vendor-25/
Don’t ever forget to eat burnt toast when it passes your way, because you will discover, it is something spiritually delicious and filling. Burnt toast is foodforthesoul. https://eastwindjournals.com/2023/06/15/burnt-toast-26/
27 CHRISTMAS WITH ARABS AND JEW
I was hitchhiking through Europe as a young man in the 70s. After six months on the road, I ended up in Athens in the dead of winter, passing from Italy to Yugoslavia. In Athens, I bumped into the most bizarre Christmas of my life. https://eastwindjournals.com/2021/11/28/christmas-with-arabs-and-jews/ (Excerpt from the book Wings and Wanderlust, available at Amazon – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09KS7QYWL
28 HEALING PRIEST FR. SUAREZ ALMOST BEHEADED IN SAUDI
It was a miracle how healing priest Fr. Suarez got out of it. His healing prayer went viral. People reported they were healed online. This Saudi story was related to the author by one from the inner circle of Fr. Fernando Suarez at a crowded fund-raising party. https://eastwindjournals.com/2021/10/24/fr-suarez-almost-beheaded-in-saudi/
29 MEDIATRIX SAVES THOUSANDS FROM RIVER TSUNAMI
Like a thief in the night, on December 4, 2012, super-typhoon Pablo sent a deadly ‘river tsunami’ across New Bataan in Compostela Valley in Mindanao. About 80 people drowned, but it could have been thousands more if not for the Miracle of the Flood. https://eastwindjournals.com/2021/09/21/mediatrix-miracle-of-the-flood/
30 THE VIRTUE OF SIMPLICITY (#34)
People learn the virtue of simplicity only when it is too late. You can buy a house but not a home, a clock but not time, an island but not inner peace, pleasure but not love. Spiritual things just cannot be bought. Here are four short stories as examples. https://eastwindjournals.com/2021/06/05/the-virtue-of-simplicity/
