Like a thief in the night, on December 4, 2012, super-typhoon Pablo sent a deadly ‘river tsunami’ across New Bataan in Compostela Valley in Mindanao. About 80 people drowned, but it could have been thousands more if not for the Miracle of the Flood.

Prior to the flood, a mysterious woman warned four altar boys to pray to Our Lady Mediatrix, predicting that a disaster similar to the in Cagayan de Oro would soon take place. The four prayed devoutly together obediently.
Sixteen years old Joseph Babag was the lone survivor of his family of six. When the flood came without warning, Joseph’s family together with about 50 evacuees at a health center were all swept away a few kilometers downstream towards the St. Anthony Parish. The water was so powerful, it lifted the very foundation of the health center and smashed it into pieces, Joseph recalled. Joseph clung to the trunk of a coconut tree to survive. Parish priest Fr. Tuling adopted Joseph and was studying to be a teacher as of March 2018, He was thinking of joining the priesthood. Perhaps he was saved to serve the Lord. Fr. Tuling said, “We are now the hands of the handless Virgin. Let us use them to reach out to the needy”.
Andap ng Liwanag (Andap of the Light)
A second miracle occurred at Barangay Andap, a few kilometers upstream of Kibinuangan. Two giant boulders split and weakened the flood, protecting hundreds of evacuees at the San Roque Chapel and at the marketplace downstream. The evacuees punched a hole in the ceiling of the chapel to reach the safety of the roof. A memorial shrine called Andap ng Liwanag (Andap of Light) was built in between the two boulders which parted the raging waters. A ‘tower of hope’ was built to mark the highest level of the flood.

Short History
Our Lady appeared to the late visionary Sister Teresing Castillo, a postulant of the Carmelite Sisters, in Lipa City in 1948, telling her she was to be called Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace. Subsequently, hundreds witnessed a series of showers of soft rose petals miraculously etched with religious images like the Holy Trinity. Mediatrix devotion spread like wildfire nationwide. The Vatican and the CBCP have declared that Mediatrix devotion is permitted even as the investigations of the apparitions are incomplete. Our Lady Mediatrix (East) is viewed as a continuation of Our Lady of Fatima (West), focusing in evangelization in Asia and China, the key to peace in a troubled region.
