Why the Virgin Looks Up to Filipinos

For unknown reasons, some Vatican Cardinals systematically suppressed the devotion to Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace, and the entire Philippine clergy for 70 long years. But in the end, the Blessed Virgin triumphed through the help of the Filipino Laity when the clergy was suppressed and silenced. That is why the Virgin looks up to Filipinos today as the vanguard of Marian evangelization.

The Blessed Virgin, under the title of Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace, chose the Philippines to launch her mission to evangelize and bring peace to Asia because Marian devotion of Filipinos is regarded as one of the most dynamic and active worldwide. Filipinos dominate Catholic churches during Sunday Masses everywhere, from San Francisco, USA to Vientiane, Laos. The Philippines is at the center of a growing Asian evangelization by the Church.

The Vatican commissioned eight Filipino Bishops to form an investigating committee to look into the Mediatrix apparitions. All eight concluded the apparitions were authentic, but they were secretly coerced by the Papal Nuncio to change their statements, under pressures and threats. Years after, when one bishop, on his death bed, finally admitted the coercion, the rest of the other Bishops also recanted their statements, throwing a monkey wrench on the investigation.

In a span of decades, four vocally pro-Mediatrix Bishops/Archbishops of Lipa City, where the apparitions occurred at the convent of the Carmelite Sisters, where exiled without explanation to remote dioceses. The entire Filipino clergy was systematically suppressed and forced into silence and submission.

Mediatrix statues were destroyed, vital documents and devotional materials burned, including most of the rose petals miraculously bearing religious images that rained from the sky, as witnessed by thousands. However, the photos are now permanently in the Internet. Remnants are a closely guarded secret by their owners. (See the photos in another article – “Diary of Mediatrix Visionary Sr. Teresing – https://eastwindjournals.com/2021/07/19/diary-of-mediatrix-visionary-sr-teresing/.)

The Filipino laity, who were beyond the clutches of the Cardinals, took over when the Filipino clergy was forced into silence. The laity distributed Mediatrix statues to dioceses nationwide and formed Mediatrix organizations across the archipelago. They organized processions, novenas and Masses in honor of the Lady Mediatrix. Talking to Bishops and Priests when they were distributing Mediatrix statues, Marian pioneers reported that all the Bishops and Priests, with rare exceptions, secretly believed in the Mediatrix but requested to be “off the record”.

At the start, the anti-Mediatrix prelates said the devotion was banned by the Church. But later, the Vatican and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) declared that devotion to the Mediatrix shall be allowed even while the authenticity of the apparitions was still in question.

In the end, the Virgin prevailed because of grassroots Filipinos, not the prelates. Mediatrix devotion spread like wild fire. Ironically, the more it was suppressed, the more it grew. Seventy years of suppression could not stop the Virgin from asserting herself.

Mediatrix in the East is the continuation of Fatima in the West. On the 100- year anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima, the Miracle of the Sun in Fatima was repeated in Matalam, North Cotabato, Philippines, exact to the hour and the day (read more – https://eastwindjournals.com/2021/09/23/mediatrix-miracle-of-the-sun/. When Fatima visionary Sr. Lucia was dying, the miraculous Mediatrix statue in the Carmelite convent in Lipa shed tears of blood.

It is thus the duty and privilege of the global Filipino, scattered across the planet, to fulfill and continue Marian evangelization in Asia and the world. For this is the will of the Blessed Virgin. Filipinos have a special role in Church evangelization in the Eastern hemisphere.

Mediatrix visionary, the late Sr. Teresing Castillo, a Carmelite nun, in her second diary (the first was burned) described how she was tormented by the devil, trying to pry her away in vain from the Mother Superior who gave her comfort and strength. She had bruises on her arms and back (read her diary – https://eastwindjournals.com/2021/07/19/diary-of-mediatrix-visionary-sr-teresing/). Indeed, Satan was scared of the Mediatrix as the launching pad for future Asian evangelization.

It is in this light that, in the coming elections, Filipinos have to pray to Our Lady Mediatrix for a good leader to rescue them from the pandemic and from rampant corruption and injustices, especially against the poor. This is the first step in their role as the Marian center of Asia. For the Virgin will save the Filipino people who love her and fought for her, but only if they pray hard for it.
