In Defense of Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace

CBCP President Bishop Pablo David, via an article in Philippine Star dated May 29, 2023, said that there was “no sign or supernatural origin” in the apparitions of Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace to the late visionary Sister Teresing Castillo, a Carmelite nun. Bishop David’s statement echoes the official declaration of the CDF and the Vatican. However, there are historical data saying that the apparitions were indeed declared authentic by the commission created by the Vatican’s CDF in the 1950s.

The CBCP is thus declaring with finality that the Mediatrix apparitions are not authentic, contrary to the original findings of a Commission of eight Filipino Bishops created by the Vatican’s Confederation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) in the 1950s that THE APPARITIONS WERE INDEED AUTHENTIC. The CDF conducts official investigations on all alleged apparitions and miracles claimed by the faithful. It took about 20 years before the CDF declared the Fatima apparitions as authentic.

The eight Filipino Bishops in the Commission were reportedly secretly forced by the Papal Nuncio then, the representative of the Vatican, to reverse their official findings. This was known only many years later when one of the Bishops, on his death bed, recanted his decision back to the original claim of authenticity. The other Bishops also recanted their decisions later.

This threw a monkey wrench on the Commission’s findings. There was a proposal to do a second investigation, which Pope Francis was aware of, according to a Filipino priest close to the Pope, which was never undertaken for unknown reasons. A new investigation may be impossible because most of the evidences proving authenticity have been destroyed through the decades.

The recent declaration of Bishop David in behalf of CBCP of non-authenticity is understandable, as they are simply voicing the official statements of the Vatican and of the Church. Any contrary view is tantamount to ‘schism’, a denial of the Vatican and the Papacy and the Church itself. The CBCP cannot do that. The burden to resolve the impasse of conflicting results in the investigation lies on the Vatican, the CDF, and Pope Francis himself.

The Campaign to Suppress Our Lady Mediatrix of All Grace.

VATICAN AND CDF ELEMENTS, WHO IGNORED PROPOSALS FOR A NEW INVESTIGATION, BEGAN AN INTENSE CAMPAIGN TO SYSTEMATICALLY SUPPRESS THE MEDIATRIX PHENOMENON, WHICH LASTED FOR ABOUT EIGHT DECADES (as of this writing) TO THIS VERY DAY.

Here is a partial list of the suppression. The original miraculous Mediatrix statue was hidden in some cellar. Other statues were destroyed. The miraculous rose petals with religious images were burned, destroying the very evidence needed as proof of authenticity for future investigations. (Read article with link below.) The petals which escaped destruction are now secretly hidden somewhere by the Laity. Novena pamphlets, stampitas, and religious materials were burned, including the precious first-hand-account diary of visionary Sister Teresing Castillo. A second diary was made before she died, available today in the Internet (Read article with link below.)

Sr. Teresing was brought secretly to a ‘safe house’ and grilled by a priest, who reportedly threw an ash tray at her when she refused to recant the apparitions of the Virgin. Fortunately, he missed.

MANY BISHOPS OF LIPA CITY WERE ‘EXILED’ TO REMOTE DIOCESES OR FORCED TO RESIGN THROUGH THE DECADES FOR THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE MEDIATRIX.

THE ENTIRE PHILIPPINE CHURCH, IN FEAR OF REPERCUSSIONS, WAS FORCED INTO SILENCE, EXCEPT FOR A FEW BRAVE ONES. WHEN THE BISHOPS FELL SILENT, THE LAITY TOOK OVER, IMMUNE TO VATICAN REPRESSIONS. THE DEVOTION SPREAD LIKE WILDFIRE THROUGH THE LAITY. THE VIRGIN PREVAILED.

The Laity took the cue from a CBCP declaration that Mediatrix devotion was allowed in spite of the apparitions declared as non-authentic and still needing further investigation.

About 110 life-size Mediatrix statues were distributed to dioceses nationwide, especially in Mindanao, where Mediatrix miracles mushroomed. Lay Mediatrix groups sprouted everywhere. Nobody could stop the Virgin and the resilient Filipino Marian devotion.

There are Filipino prelates who are avid supporters of Vatican-based suppression. Fr. Jose Syquia, chief exorcist of the Archdiocese of Manila, who reportedly sneaked in secretly into the cloistered Carmelite convent to ‘exorcise’ the miraculous Mediatrix statue, was accused by Marian devotees of sacrilege. His assistant, Fr. Winston Cabanding, was recently arrested, charged in court by Mediatrix devotee ex-justice Harriet Demetriou, after he allegedly made fun of the Virgin.

Evangelization of Asia

In her second diary, Sr. Teresing wrote that she withstood the tortures by the devil of foul smell, bruises on her arms, and pressures to ignore the counsel of her Mother Superior, her source of strength.

The tortures hint that Satan wants to suppress Our Lady Mediatrix in panic that the Philippine Church may become her launching pad for the Church evangelization of Asia, especially China. There is now a Mediatrix shrine in Nanjing, scene of massacres by the Japanese in World War II.

The ‘conversion’ of China is not necessarily into Christianity but more of acceptance – a halt in persecutions and massacres of Christians and destruction of churches, and the possible unification of the Vatican-based Church recognized by China and the Underground Church, target of assassinations and suppression. This ‘conversion’ may require a Papal consecration of China similar to that by St. Pope John Paul II of Russia, which was followed by Perestroika and Glasnost, the Kremlin policy reforms of efforts towards reconciliation with the West.

Mediatrix evangelization is linked to Fatima in three ways. 1) Marian devotee Anacleta Trivino witnessed the miraculous Mediatrix statue shed tears when Fatima visionary Sister Lucia was dying (source –Mary, Mediatrix of All Grace, by Rene C. de Jesus.). 2) The Miracle of the Sun in Fatima was duplicated on its 100^th anniversary exact to the day and the hour in a Mediatrix shrine in Matalam, North Cotabato. 3) St. John Paul II, the Fatima Pope, explains the history of the Church’s global evangelization in the poster below, based on his Ecclesia in Asia, November 1999).
